Coupled with the engine, the transmission is the lifeblood of your vehicle. When new cars come with a "powertrain warranty," these components are specifically included due to their integral importance to the essence of your car. While certainly robust and capable of carrying one through the typical length of ownership (some BMW transmissions require no scheduled maintenance), the transmissions of BMW's cars do require upkeep and repair, especially those vehicles in the higher-mileage range.
